Santa Fe - Hyundai to Launch Its Brand New Santa Fe in Indian market

Hyundai is gearing up to launch its brand new SUV model- Santa Fe in the Indian market. Although the earlier two attempts, with Terracan and Tucson have failed, Hyundai is planning to launch the Santa Fe in its third attempt, around Diwali. The SUV segment is the second largest growing one in the passenger car sales.


Speaking on the purported launch, Arvind Saxena, director, marketing and sales said, "We will launch Sante Fe in October-November, ahead of the festive season. If volumes pick up, then we will consider assembling the vehicle here."

At present a significant 18-20 percent of growth comes from premium SUVs. This 7 seater SUV will be powered by a 2.2L diesel engine. The new Hyundai Santa Fe model will be imported as a CBU and will be priced between Rs. 22-24 lakh.

The new Hyundai Santa Fe will compete with successful models like Honda CRV, Ford Endeavour, Chevrolet Captiva, Mitsubishi Outlander and upcoming Nissan Murano and Skoda Yeti. Hyundai has done exceptionally well in the small car segment but is yet to prove its mettle in the big car segment. The company is hopeful that the all new Santa Fe will place it in an all new growth trajectory.

India's Best Selling Car 2011 - Tata Nano

Tata Nano, the small car from the Tatas, is projected to become India's second best selling car
next year, according to market research firm JD Power. According to a report by JD Power, Nano has been projected to become India's second best selling car next year.

By 2017, the top three models will be the Alto, Nano and Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, according to the report. Currently Alto is the highest selling car brand in the country, selling on an average of 25,000 units every month.

As per the report, the combined sales of mini and sub- compact vehicles would be 9,97,000 units in 2010, increasing to 3.14 million units by 2017. The size of the Indian domestic passenger car market stood at over 15 lakh units in 2009-10 and it is growing at a rate of about 30 % every month in this fiscal.

Tata Motors had launched the Nano, touted as the world's cheapest car, in 2009 and is currently delivering the first lot of one lakh cars to the customers. It produces the car from Sanand in Gujarat and the facility has an installed capacity to produce 2.5 lakh units annually.

JD Power also adds that the challenge for producers of low-cost cars in India will always be to keep production costs low, while meeting rising consumer aspirations. The government offers tax incentives to the small car buyers to promote fuel efficient mode of transportation. Cars that do not exceed four meters in length and are powered by 1200cc petrol or 1500cc diesel engines are levied 10 % excise duty compared to 22 % for other vehicles.

The Sandero is Renault’s next project for India after it launched the Logan, which is commonly sold in Europe as Dacia Logan. The Renault hatchback will feature petrol and diesel variants. The Sandero will compete with the current premium hatchbacks in the country.

The Sandero will be available with a 1.5-litre dCI diesel engine, somewhat similar to the one available in the Logan. In case of petrol, the car should be powered by the 1.6-litre and 1.4 litre engines.

The Renault Sandero is built with the qualities of the Renault Clio and Logan. The feature will feature most of the features of a premium hatchback. Thisshould include safety features like airbags and other important features which are included in most of the premium hatchbacks.
