One of Toyota’s worldwide best selling Toyota Corolla entered the Indian car market more than half a decade ago. Sometime back, the Corolla got revamped to Corolla Altis. The Corolla Altis got a new front grille, hood, lights and a few more add-ons here and there, making it look more like the typical uncle’s car. Now, for diesel engine lovers

Surprisingly, the Corolla Altis could use the 1.4 litre turbocharged diesel engine which rustles about 90-100bhp. The engine is torquey and Toyota claims it to be efficient.

The Corolla Altis diesel will have the same features like its petrol sibling be it exteriors, interiors or safety.

Competitors:

The Toyota Corolla Altis Diesel will compete with the Skoda Octavia, Skoda Laura, VW Jetta diesel variants. The less maintenance of Toyota could be vital here. With the Toyota known for its maintenance free cars, this could work in their favour.

Toyota to recall Lexus in Japan for steering fix - Toyota Motor

TOKYO: Toyota Motor Corp, the world's biggest automaker, said it plans to recall four models of its Lexus luxury car in Japan due to steering problems, its latest move in a series of massive recalls.

The recall is likely to cover about 4,500 cars in Japan and the total could reach 11,500 worldwide, Toyota spokesperson Mieko Iwasaki said on Wednesday.
 

The models in question were sold in the United States, Europe and China as well as Japan.

The models covered by the recall are the LS460 and LS460L, and hybrids LS600h and LS600hL.

The move is the latest in a series of recalls and incidents that have tarnished Toyota's reputation for quality.

The automaker has recalled more than eight million Toyota and Lexus vehicles worldwide in 2009 and this year, including 6.5 million in the United States, mainly due to complaints about unintended acceleration.

On Tuesday, Toyota paid a $16.4 million fine to settle allegations by US regulators that it was too slow to recall vehicles with defective accelerator pedals.

Toyota shares ended morning trade down 1% at 3,495 yen, outperforming the Nikkei average, which fell 1.6%.

New Toyota Etios Production to Start From December 2010

The world renowned Japanese automaker Toyota has announced that production of their Toyota Etios sedan in India would commence towards the year end. Toyota Etios is slated to be their budget sedan offering, in the Indian market.

Hiroshi Nakagawa, Managing Director, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) said "Etios means spirit and principle. This car of ours is targeted at the middle level managers and young professionals and will be priced competitively." He added "The manufacturing capacity is spread over 425 acre and based on the customer response after the Etios rolls out, the manufacturing capacity of the plant could be increased to nearly 200,000 units per year."

Toyota Kirloskar Motor would launch both hatchback and sedan under the Toyota Etios series with 1.2 liters and 1.5 liters petrol engines respectively and the price would be decided before the official launch. Despite that, it is estimated that the price of the hatch back would be in the range of Maruti Swift and Ritz while the sedan version of Toyota Etios would compete with Tata Manza and Maruti Dezire.

Toyota is present in India through a joint venture with Kirloskar Group. It has invested over Rs 3,200 crore to set up its second manufacturing facility in Bangalore with an initial capacity of 70,000 units per year. It aims to gain bigger presence in the Indian market with the Toyota Etios initiative.
